639.

The 639 Foundation takes its name from 639 Hz, a tone within the historic Solfeggio scale. This frequency has long been associated with balance, connection, and emotional restoration — qualities that reflect the foundation’s mission and values.

The roots of the Solfeggio system trace back to medieval Italy, where the Benedictine monk Guido of Arezzo developed a new, structured method for teaching pitch and melody to monastic choirs. His syllables ut–re–mi–fa–sol–la eventually evolved into the modern do–re–mi–fa–so–la–ti–do, forming the basis of what we now call solfège, a fundamental tool in music education.

Elements of this scale appear in early Gregorian chant, which is known for its clarity, stability, and meditative qualities. Within this framework, 639 Hz is the fourth tone — historically associated with harmony and interpersonal connection.

By choosing this name, the foundation honors a lineage of musical teaching and acknowledges the profound ability of sound to support well-being, foster connection, and bring people together.
